Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly announces retirement

Got to know today that Sourav Ganguly aka dada has announced his retirement. I read the news about India's former cricket captain twice before I could believe it. Damn... the cute Bong captain might not be seen in the matches after the test series with Australia. Hard to believe but true.

Ganguly made his debut in the Indian cricket team in 1996. 12 years of wonderful performance, wins, losses, controversies... and yes advertisements. And now this sudden but sooner-or-later expected retirement. Wondering what he plans to do after this.

Will miss Ganguly in Indian cricket team. Hope he makes a comeback.

Abhinav Bindra made India proud

Abhinav Bindra won a gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games making us all so proud of him. Congrats Bindra, you are our hero!

This is one of those awards that hold a great reputation for generations. How every time from now when we talk about Olympics, there's be the mention of his name and his gold medal. How his children and grandchildren and great grandchildren... will say with pride that they are his children!

It's sad that we don't give that much importance to Olympics as it deserves. This includes even me as even I don't tend to write much about this and other sport events and sports. Abhinav Bindra has inspired me to pay attention to all the various types of sports.

Wish I could do something to honour the pride of my country too.

IPL final teams - How much money have they won

Guess how much money has been won by the champions of the DLF Indian Premier League!

A cheque of Rs. 2.4 crores was presented to IPL's runner up team - Chennai Super Kings. And a whopping amount of Rs. 4.8 crores has been won by the winning team - Rajasthan Royals!

Truly deserving, in addition to the fact that they have won our hearts as well.

IPL finals

Yippee! My brother got tickets for IPL finals! Of course, even I had the option to go along, but then my back doesn't allow me to sit continuously for that long. And then, Mumbai Indians are not playing today, so who do I cheer for? Wondering how to enjoy the game of cricket while you are in a stadium, but are not a strong supporter of any of the teams. Well, what can I say, may the best team win!

However, I just watched the brilliant performance by the artists on the ring and in don't know if the other female was doing gymnastic or what, but truly mind blowing! What a closing ceremony!

Mumbai Indians lose to Misfields

A perfect example of what too much pressure can do - good to some, bad to others. I could not believe my eyes witnessing one after other misfields by Mumbai Indians. While Nehra saved a boundary throwing himself before the ball touched the boundary line, others were giving away to the pressure. Damn we lost the match (when it appeared at lot many times that we wouldn't), but the Rajasthan Royals played simply brilliantly! 7 out of 7 wins by Rajasthan Royals is something the team would be really proud of. Good going RRs!

IPL - Mumbai Indians 145 for 7

25 runs in the last over! Incredible. I wish that the efforts of Y Takawale, who scored 24 in 8 balls, pay off. All the best Mumbai Indians!

U, me aur cricket!

There were times when all the wives and girlfriends in the world (of course, the ones who are not die-hard cricket fans) used to sacrifice some of their time-with-spouse/boyfriends for the sake of cricket. But back then, there were just a few test and one-day matches every year.

Now, with the advent of twenty20 and the recent never-ending IPL, almost half of the year is dedicated to cricket! And with that comes more hours spent by the guys with the television, beer and the tummy-enhancing accompaniments. Not that I have anything against cricket (I love this sport more than any other sport and I'm sure I can watch it all my life with my hubby dear), but then when you are still in the pre-marriage stage looking forward to spend some time with him, aaarrgh, this cricket comes like a spinner and screams, "maiden over".
